How to prepare for a day of fishing

Have no fear, the preparation does not require vaccination or even learning another language…

The important thing when you come to us is to know that fishing for small channel fish is very comfortable.

Let me explain; inside the cottages you will find a wood stove that will allow you to adjust the temperature as you wish.  You will be able to do your fishing in short sleeves if you wish.  You will certainly need a good pair of boots because under the wooden floor, it’s the ice but again, I’ve seen people fishing in sneakers and be very comfortable. That’s already all for clothing, not too smart…

All our cottages include a leather couch for easy cleaning, a table and chairs as well as benches, upholstered please for the comfort of your little one.  There is also electricity for those who would like to bring a coffee maker, a radio or other small everyday objects, so as not to be too out of place.  You can’t say that there is a lack of comfort and if something is missing, we are always there to meet your needs.

Now, let’s suppose the sun is blazing and you feel like getting some fresh air.  As soon as said, as soon as done because you will have taken with you everything you need to stay warm and enjoy the outdoors.  You feel like skating, nothing could be simpler because we make it our duty to maintain our skating rink as best we can with the collaboration of Mother Nature.

I almost forgot to tell you about what it takes to fish for small channel fish.  This little stranger is fished with pork liver as the main bait.  A few years ago, it was discovered that when he arrived in the river for spawning, not being very hungry, he needed a little extra to attract him.  Therefore, shrimp is used at the beginning of the season because in its natural habitat, the St. Lawrence Estuary, this is what it feeds on.  Once the spawning is over, it feeds on liver as well as shrimp because it is very hungry.  It is then that large quantities of small tomcods are caught by the merry fishermen.

And from the tomcod, I can tell you that there are some to please all these beautiful people.   You don’t have to worry about bringing your bait that is already bagged and ready to use.  The liver is free but there is a cost for shrimp.  It is not expensive and we will tell you honestly if it is necessary to buy some or not, don’t worry.

Once your fishing season is over, we will gladly provide you with the plastic bags to bring back your catch as well as recipe ideas and tips on how to arrange this almond-like tasting fish. For a successful fishing day in Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade, you need a good dose of good humor, a desire to enjoy your day and above all, the company with which you will have a lot of fun.
