In fact, I don’t want to give you a biology lesson today but simply explain that this little fish, because we have to call it that even if some specimens can measure sometimes up to 16 inches in length or so, has made our Ste-Anne River in Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade, the largest nursery to accommodate the eggs laid by the billion each winter by the female tomcod and then fertilized by the male tomcod. This small oviparous fish of the cod family has indeed chosen our beautiful river to reproduce and at the same time to make the joy of many ice fishing amateurs. A small part of the fish that enter the Ste-Anne River each winter is caught. For the rest, they peacefully return to their natural habitat, the St-Lawrence Estuary, with their fry where they will continue their life as fish until the next winter. Nature being well done, they will return winter after winter to spawn and to be teased by our happy ice fishermen. In honor of this winter visit, we, the outfitters of the Ste-Anne River, set up a village on the frozen river so that people can walk around without really noticing that they are not on dry land. It’s like being in a small parallel world with all the necessary amenities to enjoy a winter activity accessible to the whole family. This little winter village is just waiting to welcome you in large numbers. Whether you are with family or friends, there are many activities to enjoy. Do you like to skate? No problem, we have beautiful outdoor skating rinks. Walking is your favorite activity, you can walk on the paths marked out on the ice in complete safety. For those who like to move around a bit more, there are places to play mini-putt or volleyball. It is impossible to get bored when you come to Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade to fish for small channel fish. So it’s a date, don’t hesitate to contact us at Centre de pêche Mario Leduc.
