The tomcod, a small silvery fish<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> living in dense schools, migrates into the river\u2019s waters in search of a <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">suitable habitat for reproduction<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. This <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">winter migration<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> quickly becomes an event observed with curiosity by residents, who then begin to take advantage of this opportunity.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> <\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Faced with this new treasure, <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the fishers i<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mprovise rudimentary shelters on the ice, thus forming the first <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;fishing shacks<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;. The primary objective was simple: to feed families during the winter, a period traditionally difficult for subsistence. The equipment used was modest <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">: hand lines, small bait, and plenty of patience<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Gradually, the activity grows in popularity and becomes more organized.  The shacks multiply and the river turns into an <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ephemeral village where conviviality reigns supreme.<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> <\/span> <b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The fishing of small channel fish then evolves, shifting from a vital necessity to a festive community celebration. <\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> <\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Curious visitors and enthusiasts flock from all over Quebec to take part in this unique experience. Today<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Ste-Anne-de-la-P\u00e9rade welcomes thousands of visitors each year<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> who come to discover this heritage, blending traditions and innovations, where local know-how is passed down from generation to generation.
