Whether this first snow will stay on the ground, we don&#8217;t know, but in any case, today the landscape is sumptuous. Who says first snow also says winter sports. Children are as eager to make their first snowman as adults are to make their first ski descent or their first fishing for small fish in the channels. Because you can imagine that we are ready to start the tomcod fishing season in Ste-Anne-de-la-P\u00e9rade. All outfitters have finalized the renovation of their fishing cabins and are now waiting for the cold weather that will freeze the Ste-Anne River. You know that this can happen in just one night. All it takes is a cold below freezing and a moment of lull in the river for the ice to set from one side to the other joining the two shores. And yes, it doesn&#8217;t take much more than that for the water to turn into a thin mirror of ice. Afterwards, we cross our fingers so that this thin layer of ice remains and the cold persists until the first watering. It&#8217;s not rocket science, but sometimes the first ice doesn&#8217;t stay very long. Other times it stays and the outfitters have the opportunity to thicken it by several consecutive waterings. You know that in very cold weather it only takes a few days to get the necessary thickness to be able to start working on it. When this thickness is reached, it&#8217;s time to plant the posts that will bring the current to each cottage. Then the wires are installed and the light makes us realize that life is starting again in our beautiful ice village. It is now time to begin the installation of the many small fish fishing chalets in the channels. We can say that things do not drag on and that the village has gone up in a few days.
