Imagine, 85 years that this little fish has kept us in suspense winter after winter. Moreover, 85 years that this fabulous activity does not cease improving.
\nWe only have to think of the very beginning when this little fish was discovered by a resident of Ste-Anne-de-la-P\u00e9rade who was simply going to get some ice for his cooler. What was his surprise to see that there was a multitude of them and that it was not the same fish that we were used to see in our river in normal time. It was therefore necessary to question the origin of this fish and to verify the reason why it was fortunately in our river.
\nConclusion made, it turns out that our river Ste-Anne is favourable to the spawning of the tomcod what is a good news because it will return from winter to winter since this time for the biggest pleasure of the fishing amateurs.
\nLet’s go back to the progression of the small channel fish fishery. At the very beginning, it was mostly practiced in family in small huts without any conveniences. People even fished on the St-Lawrence River, which was daring because the waves could break the ice and take the small huts with them. It was therefore necessary to be extremely careful and especially to check the movements of the tide.
\nAs time went on, fishing huts became “fishing lodges”, and you can guess why? As anything can be improved, so were the little huts. Since you could spend several hours in them, it was natural to want a little comfort. The cabins became bigger and bigger and more comfortable. In the past, there was barely enough room for a few family members inside, but now some fishing cabins can accommodate up to 30 people comfortably. You can imagine the beautiful moments to share with your family or friends in your small heated cottage. The ultimate comfort in our ice village in Ste-Anne-de-la-P\u00e9rade.
