Whether you speak French, English, Spanish, Chinese or any other language, winter ice fishing is a pleasure for many people. It is a curiosity especially since it is practiced during the winter and as far as we are concerned in Ste-Anne-de-la-P\u00e9rade, we are considered as the world capital of the small channel fish because of the spawning ground located in our river. It is here that the mother fish come to deposit their eggs which will be fertilized by the male tomcod.<\/p>\n
Every winter, thousands of people come to our place to fish for small channel fish in a village on the ice. Yes, a real village on the frozen river. When you arrive at the river in winter, this is what is most impressive. All these multicolored cottages installed temporarily on the ice.<\/p>\n
As soon as the river freezes and after the ice has been thickened by watering, the cottages are lowered onto long sledges. Then the electricity is installed because of course there is electricity like in our houses. Most of the cabins are heated with a wood stove, which makes them all the more comfortable and warm.<\/p>\n
Each outfitter has his own place. In total, there are about 18 outfitters on the river, each with a lighted sign distinguishing it from its neighbor. Streets are cleared of snow and maintained to facilitate access to fishermen and walkers because one can come to our place just to take a walk or to enjoy other activities, have a hot chocolate or a good meal. During the season of fishing for small channel fish, one cannot be bored. Whether you are a fishing enthusiast or not, the winter activity brings you so many distractions that the winter goes by without you having the time to find it too long.<\/p>\n
Fishing also allows us to meet people and to know other cultures than ours which is very interesting. From winter to winter, some people come back to our outfitter and each year we add several new ones with whom we will eventually have the opportunity to build relationships.<\/p>\n
In addition to ice fishing, there are many other activities such as skating, streetcar rides (pulled by a tractor) and many sports such as volleyball and bubble-soccer. Inflatable playgrounds and mini-putt courts are also available for shows. They even do make-up for the children. It seems that we are in a village like any other.<\/p>\n
