When you think of channel fishing, the first thing that may come to mind is that it takes place over a 2-month winter period. In reality, to accommodate you during this period, preparation lasts for most of the year.
\nAs our fishing cottages are moved around for installation and de-installation, not to mention the trips we have to make during the season to ensure a good fishing experience for our customers, they often require minor repairs or even more elaborate renovations. These are likely to break during these maneuvers. They also need to be brought up to date to ensure that customers feel comfortable and warmly welcomed.
\nWhen the season ends in February, it’s time to start preparing for the next season. We receive the wood we’ll need to cut, split and string to dry, as all our cottages are equipped with a wood-burning stove, which is much appreciated by boaters.
\nThen, during the summer, we carry out any necessary renovations, not forgetting mowing the lawn where our cottages are stored. Once this is done, we move on to routine maintenance.
\nFloors and wood-burning stoves need repainting, as does the exterior of the fishing cottages. Interior and exterior windows need to be washed, and the curtains that were thoroughly cleaned at the end of the previous season need to be put back up. As the fishing lines are untied during the end-of-season clean-up, we’ll be rebuilding them with new ropes and hooks. We’ll then fill up the wood sheds to be ready for the start of the new season of fishing for small channel fish.
