Yes, it’s that time of year—when will the fishing season for tomcods open in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, and when will the first fishing cabins be placed on the ice? That’s been the big question for the past few years. We hear talk of global warming and may not want to believe it, but it’s becoming increasingly evident that it’s happening, whether we like it or not. That said, if the trend continues, the 2024-2025 season should start on time.

Mother Nature is trying to throw a few curveballs our way with mild days and some pesky rain showers, but we won’t be deterred. The ice already has a solid thickness by mid-December, and after a few mild days, the cold returns, ensuring the ice keeps thickening. Soon, we’ll be installing the poles, running the electrical wires, and then starting to place the fishing cabins.

We’re looking forward to beautiful winter days in this charming ice village, enjoying ice fishing. As of today, December 19, 2024, all the poles are installed, and the electrical wiring will be completed tomorrow. Once the wiring is done, all that’s left is setting up the fishing cabins and, of course, drilling the holes that will allow us to catch tomcods, also known as “Christmas fish.”

Now is the perfect time to make reservations with family or friends to enjoy this wonderful winter activity, creating precious moments with loved ones. Some may even come with colleagues to strengthen team bonds. Any reason is a good reason to come and have fun in our lovely winter village on the frozen river of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade!

So, I’ll say it now: See you soon at the Mario Leduc Fishing Center!
