At first glance… no apparent connection between the “poisson des chenaux” and the summer solstice, yet there is one. We are currently on the eve of the summer solstice, and in exactly 6 months, that is, in December 2025, we will be on the eve of the start of the ice fishing season for “poisson des chenaux” and the winter solstice, which is scheduled for December 21, 2025, just 5 days before the official opening of the 2025-2026 season.

Of course, everything in its own time, and we must start by fully enjoying all the beautiful moments that summer brings before diving into winter pleasures. Truth be told, every summer feels far too short, but since we have the privilege of enjoying 4 beautiful seasons, each offering its own joys and beauty, let’s make the most of every moment. As a wise person once said: “Live in the present moment.”

We are also on the eve of two major holidays, one for Quebec and one for Canada. St-Jean-Baptiste Day and Confederation Day are summer gathering occasions to enjoy just as much as Christmas or New Year’s in winter.

Perhaps activities seem more plentiful and accessible in summer, but don’t be mistaken—winter brings its share of wonderful family activities.

Moreover, as mentioned in a previous blog post, fishing is one of them, and it can be enjoyed both in summer and in winter.

In summer, there are water slides, and in winter, there are snow slides. In summer, inline skating, and in winter, ice skating. Whether it’s summer, winter, spring, or fall, we should enjoy and appreciate our beautiful seasons and their charms.

Let it be said—there’s something for everyone in nature, and activities to match every taste!
